The Encyclopedia of Arda: Interactive Edition
This Interactive Edition of The Encyclopedia of Arda, like the well known Website of the same name, is a hugely comprehensive
reference source to the works of JRR Tolkien. It contains thousands of entries, covering broad topics from Hobbits to Elves to Middle-earth
itself, but also delving into the depths of Tolkien's imagination. Here you'll find background on everything from Adanedhel to Zirakzigil,
with entries augmented by colourful illustrations and maps, and detailed family trees and diagrams.
Of course, the Interactive Edition contains all the entries from the online Encyclopedia, but it isn't just a replica - it has a whole set
of new features, too, including probably the single most requested tool, a site searcher. Not only that, but it will allow you to
build your own custom indexes and add your own notes, and it's even able connect to the online Encyclopedia and automatically
update its contents with the latest information from the site.

Searching
With the Interactive Edition, as well as using the indexes to find entries, you can also search the Encyclopedia directly for
information. Just type a word of phrase into the search box, and you'll see a list of matching entries appear on the screen. The
search is intelligent, too - as well as finding ordinary text matches for your query, it can cross-reference the entire encyclopedia to
find a range of related entries.
Of course, you can still use the indexes to find information, too - all the same indexes that appear on the Website are also
present in the Interactive Edition, and there are even some new ones unique to the new system.

Bookmarks and Notes
Once you've found the entry you're looking for, you can keep track of it using the comprehensive Bookmarking feature, which lets you set up
your own nested indexes of entries. In fact, Bookmarks aren't just limited to Encyclopedia entries - you can even bookmark search
results, ranges of dates in the Chronicle, important dates from the Calendar, or in fact any information at all.
We've also added a new 'Notes' feature that lets you record your own comments and ideas about any topic in the Encyclopedia, which are
stored alongside an entry. There's a completely new 'Noted Entries' index, too, to let you find your notes again without a problem.

Updating the Encyclopedia
The contents of the Encyclopedia of Arda are expanding all the time, so the Interactive Edition comes with a handy utility to
keep it up to date with the main online version. The Update Utility will scan the online Encyclopedia for
new or updated entries, and automatically package and download those entries into the Interactive Edition. Not only that,
but the Updater also ensures your software is always up to date, downloading any updated features or versions as they are released.
